Air Fryer chicken livers are deliciously tender on the inside and perfectly crisp on the outside. Try them once, and you won't be cooking them any other way.
Okay, forget everything you think you know about chicken livers! I was never a big fan myself, but lately, there's been a bit of a chicken liver revival going on, and hey, I'm all about trying new things (or old things made new, in this case).
And let me tell you, this air fryer chicken liver recipe totally changed my mind. It turns out that the air fryer makes the chicken livers super tender on the inside while browning them perfectly on the outside.
The garlic seasoning is spot on and makes the chicken livers absolutely delicious. Plus, they couldn't be easier to make - simply prep, season, and pop them into the air fryer. That's basically it!
Why you'll love making chicken livers in the air fryer
- The flavor is way better than you'd expect, especially if you're usually not a fan of liver.
- It's a surprisingly healthy way to get your iron fix!
- It's seriously quick and easy - perfect for those nights when you just can't with complicated cooking.
Ingredients you'll need
Chicken livers-Look for fresh, bright red livers. If they're too big, cut them in half so they crisp out nicely.
Seasonings - I keep it simple with garlic powder, onion granules, salt, and black pepper, but feel free to experiment with your favorite spice blends!
Olive oil - Just a light spray of olive oil helps the chicken livers crisp beautifully in the air fryer.
Pro tip
Before seasoning, soak the chicken livers in buttermilk or milk for at least 30 minutes or up to a few hours. This will help tenderize them.
How to make air fryer chicken livers
Rinse the chicken livers and pat them dry with a paper towel. If necessary, trim off any excess fat or connective tissue.
Place the chicken livers in a bowl, then add the garlic powder, onion granules, salt, and pepper. Toss well to coat evenly in the seasoning.
Set your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
Place the livers in the basket in a single layer and spray them with olive oil. Work in batches if needed to avoid overcrowding them.
Cook the livers for 6 minutes, then flip them over and spray with a little more olive oil. Cook for an additional 6 minutes.
Chicken livers are done when they are cooked through and no longer pink in the center. If needed, you can cook for 1-2 minutes more.
Serve your air fryer chicken livers immediately, hot and crispy!
Recipe notes and tips
- The garlic and seasoning blend gives the livers their delicious flavor, so be generous!
- Feel free to get creative with your seasonings! Paprika, Cajun seasoning, or Italian herbs are all good ideas.
- Flipping the livers ensures they cook evenly on both sides.
- Chicken livers are done when they are firm and no longer pink inside. You can use an instant-read thermometer to check if they've reached 165°F (74°C).
- Air fryer chicken livers are best enjoyed hot and fresh for the ultimate crispy texture.
